Simon Moore
Simon Moore began training Wing Chun in 1991, motivated by an unprovoked attack from a group of four men. Although he managed to escape without major injury, he decided that he needed to learn how to protect himself and his family, should such an event ever happen again.
Fortunately a class had just opened near his home, where he met Sifu David Akroyd-Jones and Sifu Steve Woodward, who together went on to form Cheltenham Wing Chun Kuen.
Early in 1993, they approached Sifu Shaun Rawcliffe of the Midlands Wing Chun Kuen Association for intensive private instruction. Following this came an invitation for Simon to follow.
Attending firstly a seminar given by Sifu Rawcliffe, followed shortly after with one held by Grandmaster Ip Chun, the eldest son of Grandmaster Ip Man, he realised that his earlier training, although sound, was far from the level of Wing Chun that existed and that he was now able to learn.
From there he trained with Cheltenham Wing Chun Kuen, beginning to teach in classes in 2000 as a senior student. He became recognised as an instructor shortly thereafter for CWCK and became 'Sifu Moore' in 2007 (Sifu simply meaning teacher) running his own class in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire for several years.
He has visited Hong Kong to train at the Ving Chun Athletic Association and been privileged to 'link hands' with many world wide representatives of Grandmaster Ip Chun and practitioners from other lineages, throughout his 33 years plus experience.
Since moving to Pembrokeshire in 2017 Simon established Cymru Wing Chun Kuen, with the intent off offering holistic Wing Chun, striving to offer the depth that genuine Gung Fu embodies and benefits all who learn it.
He has continued to develop his own practice and understanding through research, exploration, application and teaching.
With a career as a teaching professional for more than 27 years, he possesses a wealth of knowledge in teaching and learning, how to coach and support individuals and is able to bring this to his Wing Chun instruction.
